Most people who drive a truck choose this form of vehicle because they their unique need. Hauling large and bulky items is usually a top priority and this makes a cargo bed especially desirable for easy transport and convenience. The functionality of a pick-up truck make them the perfect vehicle for many people, however there are some accessories available that can improve convenience, safety, and quantity of cargo being hauled.

If you drive a midsize pick-up truck or one with a short bed, hauling longer cargo such as lumber or drywall can sometimes be a real hassle. These bulky loads oftentimes force people to travel with the tailgate down to improve the length of the truck bed. This method works great but the tailgate no longer performs its primary function of keeping items in the truck bed. Securing cargo is imperative for safe transportation and a solution is needed. Consider purchasing a bed extender to solve this issue. A bed extender is simply a metal cage that rotates on hinges attached to the inside of the truck bed. A bed extender can be flipped out with the tailgate down to provide more secure cargo hauling space, or flipped in to make a compartmentalized bed to better secure normal size loads.

For many people their truck is also their office. For those in the service and construction industries, trucks need to haul cargo easily and securely. Expensive items such as tools, material, and sensitive documents need to be safe from theft and protected from moisture.  For many contractors and service people, the lockable cargo box is the answer. Cargo boxes span both sides of a truck bed and are usually installed against the cab to retain maximum cargo area in the bed. This type of cargo accessory is especially useful because it is designed with a weatherproof seal and contains several compartments and trays to help the driver stay organized. Most importantly a cargo box locks to keep everything within secure. Many lockable cargo boxes do not reach all the way to bed floor so sheets of drywall and plywood will still fit in the truck bed by sliding them under the cargo box.  Consider a lockable cargo box if security and weather protection for your valuable materials and tools is a top priority.

The pick-up truck is a functional tool. By purchasing a few cargo accessories you can customize you truck to your exact needs and be confident knowing your cargo is secure, dry and ready when you need it for business or pleasure.
